On June 24th, we volunteered with Shaka Soul Surfers. This is our second-year volunteering with them during the summer. This organization provides surfing lessons to kids with special needs. Since kids with special needs often have limited options for outdoor extracurriculars, this is a fun activity that takes place at the beach. I loved watching the kids laughing and smiling while riding a wave. It made me feel good to watch all the kids have so much fun. After having such a great experience volunteering the first time, I had been looking forward to the opportunity to come back. Not only does this organization allow you to help kids, but you also get to meet amazing people that share the same passion about helping their local community.

On June 24th, 2023, I had an amazing first experience volunteering at Shaka Soul Surfers. I was accompanied by others who were very friendly and helpful, and overall had a lot of fun. I would most definitely recommend helping out at a session for anyone who wants to give back to their community, and have fun at the same time. Shaka Soul Surfers uses surfing to empower people with disabilities and create a feeling of community among young people. On Saturdays, they provide an hour-long session through carefully developed surf programs. With the help of an inclusive approach, they create a welcoming and accepting atmosphere where participants of all abilities can enjoy riding the waves and form lasting connections.
