Making an Impact: My Volunteering Experience with Making Waves FL

Community service has always been something I’ve cared about, but getting involved with Making Waves FL made me realize just how much I enjoy giving back. At first, I was just

volunteering at a few events, but over time I found myself wanting to do more. I aspired to be a larger part of the team and was determined to help make a greater impact on the community, along with other people who share the same passion for helping others.

When I first started volunteering for Making Waves, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I just went to a few events here and there and helped where I could. After helping out, I quickly realized how rewarding it was to be a part of a group that actively tries to make a difference in the community. Since then, I’ve been involved in a variety of events. Some of these include multiple beach cleanups around Fort Lauderdale, setting up and helping out at the Kids of Love marathon that supports kids with cancer, helping at a farmers market booth in support of Make our Schools Safe to fight against gun violence, Becca’s Closet which focuses on making sure underprivileged kids get prom and homecoming dresses, and collected and prepared items for chemo care packages to give to cancer patients.

Seeing the impact that I can have on others by helping in these events has made me want to do more than just volunteer on occasion. That’s why I decided to take the next step and become more involved with Making Waves FL as a team leader. Instead of simply showing up to events, I want to help plan, organize, and get even more people involved. Being surrounded by people who care about the same things motivates me to keep pushing forward and doing what I can to help our community.

I’m excited for what’s ahead in this organization whether it be new volunteer events, meeting more people who are passionate about making a change, or just seeing the impact we can create together. Every little thing our organization does in the community can make a lasting impact and I’m so grateful to be part of a team that’s truly dedicated to making a difference.
