From Service to Self-Growth: 4 Years of Volunteering

by Evan Schoenborn

Volunteering has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, offering lessons and personal growth I never expected. When I began volunteering, I didn’t realize how much I would gain in return. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is empathy. Meeting different people and hearing their stories has deepened my understanding of the challenges that others face and what they need to overcome. It’s taught me to approach situations with a new open-hearted mindset. Volunteering has also helped me develop skills such as organizing events and solving problems. I’ve learned how to communicate effectively, manage my time, and adapt to unexpected situations. These experiences have made me more confident and prepared to handle them. Perhaps the greatest reward has been the sense of purpose and connection. Seeing the difference my efforts make, whether it’s a smile on someone’s face or the success of a community project, has been extremely rewarding. Volunteering has connected me with people who share a passion for making a difference, creating friendships and networks. In giving my time to help others, I’ve gained a new perspective on gratitude, perseverance, and the power of working as a team. Volunteering isn’t just about giving, it’s also about growth and the lessons learned along the way.

Working with these organizations has given me the opportunity to learn new skills and gain a better understanding of issues we should all get more involved with to support our community

In the midst of the downfall of our mephistophelian society, mellifluous bells of hope ring as I observe the benevolence of different causes we subsidize.
